Palin star plummets as family feuding takes toll

While Barack Obama has taken to the international stage with aplomb, the defeated vicepresidential Republican candidate returned to govern the wilderness of Alaska and a host of tribulations, many of them involving Levi Johnston, the father of her first grandchild.

The Palin family has become embroiled in an unbecoming public feud with Mr Johnston after he claimed on a leading TV chat show that the governor was well aware that he and Bristol were having sex under the roof of her Wasilla home.

The Palins responded with an angry statement calling Mr Johnston a liar. Chuck Heath, Mrs Palin's father, said he wished Mr Johnston would "take some of this money he's making and buy some diapers" to support his baby, Tripp.

Mr Johnston promptly launched a counterattack, complaining the Palins were treating him as "trailer trash".

But the governor's problems don't end there. The halfsister of her husband Todd was arrested after police accused her of breaking into a home to steal money for the second time in a week. Reports said she took her fouryearold daughter along for the ride.

Even her stellar popularity in Alaska has fallen, from 80pc last summer to 60pc now. Her 'very negative' numbers have shot up from 3pc to 20pc within the past six months.(Daily Telegraph, London)
