Members of The Secret World community, a game which was officially announced just weeks ago, have mobilized to collect donations for the purchase of the flag of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, whose pole to pole journeys have been intertwined with the story of the Secret World. The Community intends to buy the flag at a London auction and present it to TSW Executive Producer, Ragnar Tørnquist when the artifact is returned to Norway.
The gaming community involved in Funcom’s recently-revealed online game, “The Secret World,” (TSW) is rallying support to raise USD$15,000 in donations to bid on Roald Amundsen’s Expedition Flag - an item of great importance to the Norwegian people. The flag is being sold at auction on May 7th in London with an estimated price tag of USD$10,000 - $13,500.
The community’s goal is to return the Flag to its home in Norway and present it to Executive Producer, Ragnar Tørnquist, and the development team, to “preserve, protect and provide inspiration for future explorers and dreamers”.
Roald Amundsen, a Norwegian Explorer, led the first Antarctic expedition to reach the South Pole and is also the first person to reach both the North and South Poles, and traverse the fabled North-West Passage. This Flag was carried by Amundsen on all his polar expeditions and thus holds a significant importance to the people of Norway.
The journeys of Amundsen have played a central role in the mysterious story surrounding “The Secret World.” Tørnquist, has woven real events from Amundsen’s travels with puzzles and mysteries that have required countless hours of research by the community to solve. These puzzles and mysteries have received wide-spread attention in the gaming community.
