When you have a baby, you have the option of using either cloth or disposable diapers. If you choose to use cloth diapers, you will need a diaper pail. There are two ways to store soiled cloth diapers: the wet pail method and the dry pail method. The wet pail method, contains water mixed with ?cup baking soda and ?cup vinegar and serves as a presoak. The dry pail method involves simply tossing soiled diapers into a diaper pail. This method is considered much safer since there it does not contain water which poses a drowning risk for your kids. It does not require carrying a heavy pail filled with water to the washing machine every time you wash diapers.
Things you need: Diaper pail, Waterproof liner, Baking soda, Essential oil, Safety Pin and Fabric scrap
To use the dry pail method, you will need a diaper pail. You have the option of covering the pail with a lid or leaving it open. It all depends on how often you wash your baby diapers.
Place a waterproof lining and/or plastic bag inside a clean diaper pail to eliminate the need to excessively clean the inside of the pail.
Next, put a few drops of essential oil onto the fabric scrap and then pin it to the side of the water proof diaper pail liner to help neutralize odors.
Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the bottom of the pail to help control the smell. You can also sprinkle some baking soda on top of the diaper pile when they begin to stink.
Remove solids off dirty diapers. You can use a rubber scraper or diaper spray to get rid of solid faster. Flush solids down the toilet.
Unfold each soiled diaper before tossing them into the pail to ensure that it gets cleaned thoroughly. This way you won have to unfold them later on when it time to wash the diapers.
Chuck the diapers and the lining into the washing machine and dispose of the plastic bag if you are using one. Run the diapers and the lining through a cold rinse and then run them through a complete wash cycle. Remember to only use a baby-safe laundry detergent. Skip fabric conditioners and laundry sheets as these contain fragrances that could irritate your baby skin.
Cleaning the diaper pail Of course you will need to keep your diaper pail clean. Otherwise, it will become a breeding ground for germs and bacteria.
Things you will need include: Household cleaner Vinegar, Paper towels, Latex gloves, Disinfectant and Baking soda
Wipe off any remaining solids inside the empty pail using a wash cloth or damp paper towels.
Douse the pail with baby-safe household cleaner or create your own by mixing vinegar and water.
Give the diaper pail a thorough wash down using a scrub or brush.
Wash it thoroughly and then let dry.
